Algorithms are an extremely useful tool but they need to be checked by human logic. We can see things that algorithms think are reasonable are actually completely reasonable and it is the responsibility of people to maintain these algorithms and correct for any potential biases.

I’ve realized how fortunate I am to have the internet. It’s such an integral part of my day to day life and it’s terrible that there are still people in the US who don’t have it. The internet is how I kept in touch with the world throughout 2020. This is a serious issue. The internet needs to stop being treated as a luxury and start being treated as a necessary utility because in today’s society that’s what it is. Every household should have access to internet.

My privacy is important to me. I like to have my own space and my own time, and only people who are really close to me know a lot about me. That’s why I’d prefer my information not to be sold or traded. It’s unsettling but unfortunately it’s a part of my life right now because of my internet connected devices. At the moment it’s not too much of an effect on my life. The ads and recommended articles and videos on certain websites are scarily accurate but other than that there aren’t many visible affects on my life. Overall I’d like it to stop but it’s nowhere near the biggest concern in my life right now.
